To Be or Not To Be? (Part 1): The Case For a Medical Career Saving lives, respect, autonomy, and salary have traditionally been the benefits of pursuing a medical career. Additionally, doctors have the unique opportunity to develop a close interpersonal relationship with their patients, which is uncommon in most other professions. Some students who decide to pursue a career in medicine are 100% positive of their choice and have known that since they were young. However, some people are not so sure. Many people who are unsure of the profession have the problem of putting it on such a high pedestal. The goal is to bring that level down to realistic levels, as well as to discuss some benefits out of the cliché which can help decide if being a doctor fits your life goals.
